"Homemade" Signs

Manufacturing excitement, via the National Journal:

The "homemade" signs seen on the floor of the Republican National Convention tonight are actually a bit of stagecraft. Floor whips--volunteers in plastic red, white, and blue hats--worked their way across the hall handing out paper posters with slogans such as "Hockey Moms for Palin," "Palin Power," and "Environmentalists for McCain."

One delegate looked at his "Environmentalists" sign and shrugged that he basically agrees with McCain's views of the environment. "They're acceptable," he said.

  1. Isn't this what happens at political conventions? Are you implying that this didn't go on at the DNC?

Just wondering what the point is?

  2. It didn't happen at the DNC.

    That's the point.

  3. Ya the signs at the DNC were pretty clearly made by the campaign, not handwritten "Hockey Moms 4 Palin !!!!!!!" written with what I'd imagine was window chalk.

But I've gotta say, it was a good idea, it made people look enthused before they really were. Just kind of odd that they'd have to do that with their base.

  4. No "homemade" signs at the DNC, but they did have neat styrofoam Greek columns.
