From Prop 8 to Repealing DOMA?

I believe it was Jeremy who once said that Greenwald was interesting, but much too wordy.

In a post that proves Jeremy right on both counts, an argument for where the No on 8 crowd may head from here.

I'm game.

  1. Even attempting to repeal DOMA would be political suicide for Democrats. The vast majority of states and their citizens are strongly in favor of the traditional definition of marriage and no state has altered it through popular vote. Even liberal California couldn't muster enough support to keep from changing the definition back to the way it was.

The effort to repeal DOMA is nothing more than an attempt to strong-arm states into a position they do not want. If same-sex partners want to be married, let them move to Massachusetts. Our system of competitive state governments was designed to give you the freedom to vote with your feet.

  2. Ugh. I have to agree with Jesse. Democrats attempting to repeal DOMA is Karl Roves wildest fantasy. It really seems that some on the left are working their hardest to guarantee that President Obama only serves one term.

In this case Greenwald is wordy and dumb.

Thank you though for the gratuitous linkage!
